Acupuncture is a complicated; and yet simple subject that is often hard for us Westerners to relate to because it is so different from Western ideas. Acupuncture is a part of a system of medicine practiced for thousands of years in China known to the Western world as Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has been used to treat a wide variety of disorders by both eastern and western practitioners who may use other types of treatment in addition to Acupuncture to heal their patients.
Both Chiropractic and Acupuncture seek to increase the harmony of the individual with their environment. The Acupuncturist looks to balance the energy of a patient to restore their health and harmony. Obtaining this balance is essential in acupuncture, and the patient is considered healthy only when the individual’s energy is in balance. This energy, known as chi or qi, is the life force that flows through all living beings and it flows through the body along pathways known as meridians.
